As the world outside contends with rising temperatures and global unrest, "LUNGS" takes you on an intimate journey with one couple's debate over bringing new life into our uncertain world. This smart, sharply witty play by Duncan Macmillan, co-directed by Matthew Robert and Jade Evangelista, starring Sara Giacomini and Bradley Nowacek, captures the lifecycle of a relationship with all its highs and lows.
“We are so proud to be producing LUNGS by Duncan Macmillan, part of our 23-24 season’s theme of Environmentalism, a touching journey intertwining artistry and environmental stewardship. Through the power of storytelling, we invite audiences to join us in celebrating this transformative theatre experience where the stage becomes a timeless space to explore human relationships set against the backdrop of our sick planet. The play gives the audience the opportunity to be present in our current moment in time while we watch a duet of actors explore the realities, fears and hopes of bringing a child into our heating and turbulent world. We hope the play will inspire thoughts about our planet, ourselves, and our collective futures, igniting conversations that resonate far beyond the footlights.” - Theatre Artistic Director Matthew Robert
The role of “W” is played by Sara Giacomini. Sara is an Actress and Teaching Artist hailing from the New Jersey/New York area. She is thrilled to be collaborating with Artistree Community Arts Center & Gallery on this important and moving piece. Some of her previous acting credits include: The Ghost Train (Peggy Murdock) at Centenary Stage Company, A Christmas Carol (Understudy/Performed as Old Jo) at the McCarter Theatre Center, The Little Foxes (Alexandra Giddens) with Hudson Theatre Works, Hand to God (Jessica) at BBPAC, and numerous summers with various Shakespeare in the Park Companies in NJ/NY, with roles including Romeo, Puck, Viola, Feste, and Hermia. She holds a BA in MT from FDU.
The role of “M” is played by Bradley Nowacek. Bradley is originally from Milwaukee, WI, where he was a youth actor, cellist, and occasional mathlete. Favorite roles include Usher/Understanding (Everybody, Milwaukee Rep), Fester (The Addams Family, Yale), Touchstone (As You Like It, First Stage) and Elihu/Satan (Book of Job, Theatre 315). In 2023, he received a BA from Yale University, and now lives in NYC with his two roommates and his cello, Roger.
With humor and poignancy, "LUNGS" dives into the depths of family, change, and love. It’s a tale of hope and betrayal, of happenstance, and of the deep pain that comes with the intimacy of causing hurt only to those we hold dear.
