A Day in The Life of an ACT Jr Camper! Told by: Georgia Sinclair

Hi! My name is Georgia Sinclair, and this is my fourth year in ACT Jr. Musical Theatre Camp. I’m delighted to be cast as Mayzie La Bird in ACT Jr.’s production of Seussical Jr. My first musical was Matilda, that started my love of theatre camp. At ACT Jr. I have played Tammy, Kai, Annie, and Mayzie.   

Today was our last dress rehearsal before opening night. Every day we start by getting to camp and warming up, physically and vocally. Then Miss Abbie tells us the schedule for the day. Which cast is performing first and timing, important announcements . Then the two casts split up. The cast going first typically stays in the rehearsal barn. They go through the long process of putting on costumes and fixing little details. When they go to the theatre, they do a lift call. That means we go through any lifts in the show to check if it is safe. Then the cast goes through the run. Sometimes the other cast gets to watch but today camps from Artistree watch us. Then we have snack. After snack the other cast goes. They do the same routine.Next is lunch and recess. We get 30 mins to eat lunch and 30 mins to play.  At the very end of the day, we go through notes with all the directors. Today after Thing 2’s run, we had a surprise treat for our last rehearsal, it was popsicles! They were delicious. A reward for hard work. Then we had to do the sad part, leaving. But tomorrow is a promise of more fun!

I really like how free Seussical is. You don't have a written story or written character, you can make your own choices about your character and make your story how you want. Seussical is also fun! You don't have to worry. The entire energy of the show is that it doesn't really make sense and is just fun. That is what I love about it.

My favorite part of being in ACT Jr. is the community! You are surrounded by people who care about you, and everywhere you look there is a kind face. Friends who support you and adults who want to help you succeed. That is the best thing about ACT Jr.!

One of my favorite lines in the show is when the Cat in the Hat does an impression of Louis Armstrong in How Lucky You Are! It is just so funny the way my Cat, David Solitare, does it. If you come to the show, look out for that line.
