Wheel Throwing: Beginning & Continuing – Saturdays

Learn and practice your throwing skills in our ceramics studio.

Jackie will introduce you to the fundamental skills of wheel throwing. We’ll practice wedging, centering, and throwing as well as the basics of trimming. Prior to glazing fired pieces we’ll discuss the elements of glazing and decorating. Participants must return to pick up their finished work. Students with a bit of prior wheel throwing experience wishing to refresh and hone the skills they have are welcome to join this group. The class fee includes all stoneware clay, glazes, and firing.

Jackie Padich received a B.F.A. in Ceramics and a B.S. in Visual Arts Education from SUNY New Paltz before moving to Vermont in 2018. Jackie’s undergraduate studies were heavily focused on coil-built ceramic sculpture, culminating in a body of work deeply inspired by flora and fauna imagery in connection with the human experience. Jackie was afforded the opportunity to intern with Beth Cavener in Helena, Montana for a month in 2018. There she learned methods of building solid on metal armatures and hollowing pieces to create increasingly complex and dynamic work. Jackie is also invested in a utilitarian pottery practice at Shackleton Thomas, where she apprentices with Miranda Thomas in Bridgewater, VT. In that practice she is cultivating her skills in wheel throwing, sgraffito decoration, and brushwork.

IMPORTANT: The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our #1 priority. If, due to circumstances beyond our control, it becomes necessary for Artistree to close its doors this fall, any in-progress classes will move to an online format.  Our instructors and patrons will keep in mind that a transition to virtual learning is a possibility. Artistree will issue no refunds or credits for classes that cannot continue to run in person and must move to a virtual platform.
