The Works of Katie Runde

Katie Runde’s art straddles several disciplines and draws from a wide range of expertise. She was raised among medievalists, has been drawing as long as she was able to hold a crayon, playing saxophone since age eight, and theologizing since that day somewhere around age eleven when Mass stopped making neat story sense.

Join us for an Artist Reception on Friday, February 28th from 4-6pm at the Woodstock Gallery.

Katie Runde holds a masters in religious studies from the University of Chicago Divinity School, a BA in folklore/ethnology and music from University College Cork in Ireland, and undertook two years’ apprenticeship with the great realist painter Evan Wilson. Where so much of the adventure of contemporary art comes down to exploring new media, Runde takes her wild paradigm of spirituality, scholarship, and even some improvisation and tonal colors into the traditional medium and techniques of classical oil painting to wrap it all together into something completely new, integrative, and deeply human. Recent awards include the Collection Magazine Award at the 2016 ARC Salon, Best in Show at the Wethersfield Academy of the Arts Juried Fine Art Show and Competition, first place at the NH Center For the Arts Regional Juried Show, and second place at the Connecticut Women Artists 84th National Open Juried exhibition in Norwich Connecticut. Her work has appeared in galleries from the Salmagundi Club and the MEAM Museum in Barcelona (ARC Live Exhibition 2017) to the annual gala exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville AL, the Madelon Powers Gallery of East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA, and a recent solo show at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, VT.
