The Artist's Toolbox: Mixed Media in Drawing
There are many techniques that add dimension to what we ordinarily think of as drawing. Come discover how to incorporate techniques such as decoupage and collage into a drawing to take our pieces beyond the flat plane. Mediums, tools, and materials will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring some of your own materials. This is the perfect opportunity to clean out a desk drawer for hidden gems like movie tickets, scraps of lace, and old keys. You are also welcome to bring art you've already started: this could be your chance to give new life to that abandoned work on paper that you never quite knew how to finish.
This class is the last of four in this summer's The Artist's Toolbox series. Each workshop in the series will focus on a different combination of media in drawing: dry media, wet media, color, and mixed media. Throughout the series we will push our drawing, stretch our creativity, and grow as artists. The spirit of this series is experimental, playful, and interactive. Join us for all four days or sign up for the classes that interest you. Feel free to bring your own materials, especially ones that you may have been hanging onto but hesitating to try. All experience levels are welcome.
Teal Emlyn Sallen is a 2D artist specializing in drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. She earned her BFA in Printmaking at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2006. Teal's style is representational and narrative, with a touch of magic and whimsy, and shows the artist's enjoyment of light and color. Rather than generating a body of work in a single medium, Teal happily explores multiple ideas through print, paint, and pastel. Her curiosity about the human, the natural, and the fanciful can also be observed as a common thread in her diverse collection of work. To learn more about Teal, visit her website.
