The Art of Improv
Improvisation, or improv, is the basis for every form of acting, from stage and screen to comedy and drama. Join R.J. for an introduction to the world of improvisation and experience a class full of learning and laughter. You will explore improv theatre games, acting techniques, and character-building strategies while delving into the fundamentals of improv. The only “materials” needed for this class are a positive attitude, an appreciation for laughter, and a willingness to take creative risks. Class will meet in the Theatre Rehearsal Space.
Students should wear comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing and flat footwear (no heels). If participants would like to bring a notebook and pencil that would be useful.
R.J. Crowley is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He has written and performed sketch comedy in NYC and was a member of the improv comedy troupe The Groundlings. Most recently, R.J.’s improv skills have been on full display on Fox Sports where last summer he improvised his way through a Red Sox /Yankees commercial, and via Disney Plus, where he is featured in an episode of The Big Fib. R.J. also incorporates improv into the immersive theatre events that he produces locally.
