Beginning Painting: Acrylic or Oil

Learn the foundations of painting in a fun and supportive environment.

Learn the foundations of painting in a fun and supportive environment that will excite your passion for paint and art making! Students are invited to use acrylic or oil (or water-based oil) paint. Starting with still lifes and moving on from there, we will cover the basics of how to make a painting, some color theory, composition, impasto, glazing, and other painting techniques. We’ll explore the work of painters both past and present that can inspire us. Class discussion will help students learn to examine their own work with an eye toward growth. A materials list will be provided.
