An Evening with Swing Noire
Swing Noire plays Gypsy Jazz in the tradition of Django Reinhardt & The Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Some call it Gypsy Jazz, some Hot Swing, in either case it is acoustic music in the spirit of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Swing Noire invokes the energy of a swingin’ jazz club, transporting audiences back to the early days of jazz with their unique take on Hot Swing. Vermont’s hottest acoustic, Hot Club style quartet, Swing Noire makes music that “will entrance and surprise you.” If you haven’t heard this music (especially live) you are in for a treat. Great energy, soul, sophistication, and improvisation are the hallmarks of a Swing Noire performance.
Violinist David Gusakov, twins Rob and Jim McCuen on guitar anddouble bass, and guitarist Jim Stout make up Vermont's tightest acoustic, Hot Club style quartet. Swing Noire has performed at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, Burlington’s First Night Celebration, The Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, and many other venues throughout New England and Vermont.
“In a time when good jazz groups are hard to find, Swing Noire rises to the top as one of the best jazz groups playing around Burlington. … Swing Noire brings you into those smoky clubs of days past, makes you feel jazz the way it was meant to be felt, full of emotion and energy.” - Jennifer Crowell, First Night Burlington
"The Reinhardt acolytes genuinely channel American Hot Jazz, evoking images of smoky basement speakeasies and slinky cabarets." - Dan Bolles - Seven Days
"This is one of the hippest, most happening groups in the state, so don't miss out!" - Barbara Ebling, Co-owner - The Ball and Chain Cafe
